Is corrosion a problem in your house too?

Corrosion of metal drinking water installations is not caused by a chemical water composition only. Corrosion is favoured by low-quality raw materials, foreign particles (sand, rust, hemp etc.), incorrect mounting and water stagnation (for. ex., no water consumption during vacations, in summer cottages, empty flats).  Corrosion is not a danger only. It is even necessary when an oxidizing protective coating prevents further corrosion. In this case we deal with passivation. Only point corrosion is dangerous for water pipes made of metals.

In accordance with the state of technology and DIN 50930 a DVGW-tested protective filter is required in each house. Back-wash filters or replacement filters have advantages because the water feed is not interrupted when cartridges are exchanged or cleaned. Corrosion protection additives must be chosen in compliance with the material available and individual water quality.  For example, if the content of carbonic acid is very high or pH- values are too low alkaline additives should be used.

Brown-red colour or brown stripes in your bathroom are the first signals of corrosion in water pipes caused by aggressive water. One more problem can be added here: the boilers encrusted with lime and the spray jets becoming thinner and thinner from day to day indicate to water hardness.
